Mandela Day 2025: A Goal with Purpose
Our Mandela Day goal is to raise R670,000 to sponsor 67 Gogos with one full year of essential care. This includes:
- Nutritious daily meals
- Health screenings and healthcare
- Social interaction through seniors' clubs and home-based care
Mandela believed in the power of compassion, and your participation will directly support older women living in Cape Town’s township communities.
Extend Your Impact: Food Donations Welcome
Another meaningful way to support Mandela Day 2025 is through donating non-perishable food items such as:
- Canned foods, maize meal, rice, sugar, coffee, and cooking oil
These items will be distributed to Ikamva Labantu’s 17 community senior clubs across Cape Town's townships, helping to feed vulnerable elders throughout the year.
We Make It Easy to Get Involved
We’ll provide you with a Mandela Day communications toolkit, including:
- Email templates
- A short video
- Suggested messaging to help rally your team and share your impact
This is your chance to engage employees in a purpose-driven, values-based experience aligned with Mandela Day’s spirit of service.
Why Mandela Day 2025 Matters
Mandela Day is more than a date on the calendar; it’s a call to action. By beading a Relate bracelet, sharing stories, and donating food, your business becomes part of a broader movement to create lasting change. Together, we can uplift our Gogos and keep Mandela’s legacy alive.
How Ikamva Labantu Supports Township Elders with Lasting Impact
Many of our elders, especially women, experience deep isolation, abuse, and neglect. In Cape Town’s townships, older women are often the backbone of their households, caring for children and grandchildren on a meagre government pension while facing daily struggles to make ends meet.
Through Ikamva Labantu’s dedicated elder care programmes, we are working to change this reality. Your support this Mandela Day helps provide seniors with dignity, safety, and access to vital care.
The money you raise will directly support 67 Gogos by giving them access to Ikamva Labantu’s community-based senior clubs and home-based care services. Ikamva Labantu’s senior clubs offer more than just a daily refuge; they are a lifeline. Seniors are welcomed into a safe, supportive environment where they receive two nutritious meals, enjoy companionship and cognitive stimulation, and have access to health and psychosocial support.
For frail or bedridden older adults, the home-based care programme ensures no one is left behind. Ikamva Labantu brings this essential care directly to their homes, including rehabilitation services, assistive and mobility devices, and regular visits from a dedicated team of nurses, an occupational therapist, social workers, and trained community caregivers.
Relate’s partnership with Ikamva Labantu also creates a way for seniors to earn an income by beading our cause bracelets; the elders gain a sense of pride and the means to support their families with dignity.
