Job Position:  Production / Operations Manager

Geographic Location:  Cape Town      

Reports to: CEO

SCOPE

The production manager interacts with, relies upon and co-operates with other staff in other departments at all levels of the organisation as well as the company’s suppliers.  The production manager is the owner of all product and logistics activities in the organisation, but needs to coerce, persuade, and influence the rest of the organization in order to achieve production objectives and perform within the Relate business model parameters.

The job incumbent is accountable and responsible for the product with regard to quality, pricing, creativity and innovation as well as the management and distribution thereof, in order to meet the overall satisfaction levels of key account & general customers.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To plan, organize and control production in the organisation to ensure that goods are produced efficiently - on time, within budget and to the required quality standard.  Ie supply meets the product / brand demand.

KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

Planning – preparing orders, setting quality standards, stock control measures and estimating timescales and costs

•         Estimate production costs

•         Set production budgets

•         Manage production budgets

•         Plan a production schedule for the job

•         Determine the human & material resources required

•         Source, secure and manage external suppliers of materials

•         Participate in new product development

•         Formulate new bracelet samples and new product development

•         Implement and control the production schedule

•         Review and adjust the schedule where needed

•         Implement cost control programs

•         Manage stock on hand

•         Institute stock control systems and plan periodic stock takes

•         Ongoing engagement with sales and account management to forecast stock ordering

Control – monitoring production schedules and adjusting them if problems occur

•         Manage human and material resources to meet production targets

•         Make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement

•         Define and implement standard operating procedures for production operations

•         Ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to

•         Ensure implementation and adherence to health and safety procedures

•         Set product quality standards

•         Stock control

Monitor

•         Assess, monitor and adjust inventory levels

•         Operate within the Relate business model parameters

•         Monitor quality standards of products

•         Source new materials as required

•         Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives

•         Analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problems

•         Determine and implement improvements to the production process

•         Prepare and maintain production reports

•         Manage the performance of the production team

•         Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments

•         Engage with sales team/account management to determine stock updates/monitoring

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • an understanding of manufacturing processes (including inventory systems, understanding different product specifications, and the mechanisms / systems required to produce our product)
  • knowledge of quality systems, standards and related legislation
  • knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance
  • Solid computer skills
  • Understand numbers well

SKILLS / ABILITIES

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills & abilities:

  • Math’s calculations and IT skills
  • Ability to manage on an operational level whilst remaining focused on the larger strategic mission and vision (VERY NB)
  • People management skills

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • A post matric diploma in production management or similar preferable
  • 3 years working experience in a production/quality control department, with project management experience
