Relate along with Woolworths, have launched a brand new Breast Cancer Awareness bracelet, to be sold at select Woolworths stores, and on the Woolworths website. The proceeds from the bracelet sales will be donated to the Breast Health Foundation, an organisation that works to educate the public about breast cancer and breast health.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Relate is proud to announce the launch of its latest campaign for Breast cancer awareness as it is one of the most common cancers amongst women of all races, but early detection can lead to effective treatment and a positive prognosis. However, recent data from private medical aid provider Discovery shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted health-seeking behaviour, resulting in a reduction in screening, registration and management of new and existing chronic conditions - most notably breast cancer.

This could be due to reduced disposable income to fund these routine checks, or a result of South Africans being wary of leaving their homes at the height of the pandemic to undergo health screenings. Fortunately, organisations like the Breast Health Foundation continue to work hard to not only support breast cancer patients, but also to provide the public with a variety of resources aimed at improving awareness. The funds they raise as an organisation go directly to fund these activities, which includes a hotline, meetings, seminars and outreach, so ensuring their critical work can continue.

“With over 19 million women over the age of 15 being at risk for breast cancer in South Africa during their lifetime, we cannot think of a better organisation to partner with during this month. Annual check-ups and screenings are so important, as is providing support to those who need it.

“By purchasing a bracelet this month, you are standing in solidarity with those who are battling this awful disease,” says Lauren Gillis, Founder of Relate.

It's been a difficult 2020 due to COVID-19, but the Relate Trust continues to work hard to ensure contributions through sale of its cause bracelets continue to make a difference to the lives of South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens continue uninterrupted.
