We exist to empower communities, helping township elders put food on their tables, creating employment for underserved young adults, and supporting causes that care for our people, wildlife, and natural spaces.
As we celebrate raising R80 million for social change, with over 4.5 million people worldwide wearing our bracelets, we are humbled by the awareness and impact you have helped create. Our efforts to connect with purpose-driven individuals have been amplified thanks to pioneers our Tourvest Destination Retail and Nando’s, who have helped take Relate beyond borders, introducing conscious consumers around the world to our South African story of impact, resilience, and opportunity.
Empowering Our Township Elders
Our proudest achievement is the earning opportunities we create each year for township elders, the Gogos and Tatas (grandmothers and grandfathers), as well as our young adult crafters who bead our bracelets.
In South Africa, 5.4 million pensioners live on the margins of society. Yet, these elders are the backbone of their communities, offering wisdom, love, and resilience. Through Relate, they don’t just earn an income; they regain a sense of purpose and dignity. Their strength and stories inspire us daily, and creating more earning opportunities for them remains at the heart of our mission.
How Your Support is Changing Lives
Every bracelet supports trusted and impactful causes, helping tackle some of South Africa’s most urgent challenges. Here are just a few ways we’ve made a difference over the past year:
- Restored sight to 48 individuals through partnerships with Blind Loyalty and Grace Vision.
- Brought clean water to 4,000 people in Nomu wa Huku village with Relate Water and Innovation Africa.
- We have strengthened cheetah conservation by helping fund translocations, enhancing genetic diversity, and protecting future populations in partnership with the Endangered Wildlife Trust.
- Helped cut malaria cases by at least 50%—with some districts seeing a 70% reduction—through Goodbye Malaria.
- Elevated mental health awareness, sharing a stage with Dr. Gabor Maté and global thought leaders, to expand the Relate circle of solidarity.
