This video teaser is just a taste of what to expect on Top Billing, SABC 3 this Sunday 3 August 2014 at 12pm. Stormers players Cheslin Kolbe, Kurt Coleman, Juan de Jongh and Nic Groom went up against the best – a group of nimble-fingered gogos – to see who could bead more bracelets for Mandela Day 2014.

“As the first Mandela Day since Tata Madiba’s passing, we wanted to highlight these remarkable seniors who, like Nelson Mandela did, are still contributing so much to their country, their communities and their children and grandchildren.” Says Lauren Gillis, co-founder of Relate Bracelets.

The Bead-Off is was held three days ahead of Mandela Day to inspire as many people as possible to do something for their communities on the day and to demonstrate that even something as small as a simple bead being strung, can amount to more than R17.5m being raised for some 56 charities, investment in earnings and skills training for bracelet-makers and the creation of enterprise development initiatives in South Africa.

Neil Robinson, COO of Relate Bracelets, says “In our quest to make a difference and change lives, we make many different bracelets. But the thread running through all the bracelets is the people, mostly senior citizens, who string all the beads at townships around the Western Cape.”
