Cape Town, 9 November 2016: Capetonians are gearing for their turn to join millions of fun-loving runners in the ‘Happiest 5k on the planet’ – The Color Run is back in Cape Town. Now in its fifth year, the run brings communities together and promotes health and happiness. The local event, which takes place on Saturday, 12 November, follows the over 200 events hosted in more than 50 countries that have brought more than five million runners together.
Capetonians will this year be able to delight in added benefits from the world’s largest loyalty programme, Marriott Rewards®. Anyone who enters for the event stands the chance of winning a four-night stay in any of the participating Protea Hotels by Marriott® across South Africa! In addition, 20 entries will be selected, to have their race entry sponsored by Marriott Rewards.
The countdown to the selection of prize-winners has begun, and winners will be chosen on 6 November.
“Passionate communities are perhaps the ultimate examples of loyalty, and this is a perfect example of how Marriott Rewards partners with key lifestyle events all over the world to bring more unique lifestyle offerings to our members beyond the global member benefits that are part of the programme,” says Mark Satterfield, Chief Operating Officer, Marriott International, Middle East & Africa.
And because The Color Run is also about giving back, Marriott Rewards has purchased more than 3000 beaded bracelets, made by 100% not-for-profit social enterprise Relate Bracelets, which will be distributed to participants at the event. The bracelets support the Rotary SafeWater Project – a fundraising arm of the Rotary Club of Sea Point, to raise funds to supply Lifestraw water filters to communities throughout Africa.
“This investment will provide much-needed Lifestraw units in communities in Johannesburg and Cape Town. These units filter 100,000 litres of contaminated water, which is enough to give 2000 individuals in need around 500ml of clean and safe drinking water per day for up to 3 years,” Satterfield explains.
