African Wildlife Vets

The Foundation:

Relate Bracelets supports African Wildlife Vets and the Black Rhino Conserveration Ecology Project to provide essential veterinary support to protected areas.

African Wildlife Vets is a wildlife veterinary practice and non-profit organization that works closely with conservation managers and ecologists to ensure the protection and long-term survival of wildlife species. They support various wildlife veterinary procedures including wildlife relocations, capturing animals that have escaped the boundaries of protected areas, collaring animals for monitoring and research purposes, attending to animals injured in snaring or poaching incidents and rescuing rhino orphans.

The Black Rhino Conservation Ecology Project is a research initiative, led by Dr. Vanessa Duthé focused on understanding and supporting the conservation of black rhinoceros and more recently white rhinos. This project involves studying the ecology, behavior, and habitat needs of rhinos, particularly in relation to how they interact with their environment and other species. The goal is to gather data that can inform effective conservation strategies, such as habitat management, population monitoring, and translocation efforts, to ensure the long-term survival of rhinos species in the wild.

Research and veterinary intervention play a pivotal role in the conservation of rhino populations. Through rigorous ecological research, we gain essential insight into the behaviour, habitats, and health of rhinos. This knowledge is the foundation upon which effective conservation strategies are built. Veterinary assistance is equally crucial, as it allows us to treat injuries, combat disease and ensure the overall well-being of individual rhinos, which is vital for their long-term survival. By combining these efforts African Wildlife Vets and The Black Rhino Conservation Ecology Project not only protect individual rhinos but also contribute to the broader goal of preserving the entire species, thereby safeguarding the biodiversity and ecological balance of our planet.
